For years, you have been one of the land's finest Paladins, a beacon of justice, righteousness, and hope for the people of the land. With your apprentice, the talented and faithful Bella, you have vanquished countless evils.
Today, you and Bella have finally tasted defeat at the hands of evil, and your future is looking grim. Determined to take down one of the continent's worse sinister forces, the might wizard Sanguinis, you and Bella planned a daring infiltration of his keep—the complex of despair known as Fortress Bloodscrall. Try as you did, the opposition was too strong this time. Now, you and Bella are sitting in a cell, locked away in some fetid corner of the Bloodscrall Dungeon.
Your reminiscing and sulking is cut short by the sound of wet footsteps approaching your cell. You and Bella both look up at the noise, each chained to an opposite side of the cell. The sight that greets both of you is what can only be described as a creature that's part woman, and part tentacle demon. The smile on her face chills you to your core, and your body prickles with instinctive fear. She's accompanied by two ghouls in heavy armor, with one of them unlocking the cell door.
"Bring me the girl," she commands.
"Don't touch her!" you scream as you thrash against your chains.
Ignoring your cries, one of the ghouls moves to seize Bella. She's torn from her chains in an instant, screams for help that won't arrive mixing with the clattering of her shattered restraints. You're powerless but to watch as she's dragged away, her wails for mercy echoing through the stone halls.
You're not sure how much time passes, but you're snapped out of your grieving stupor by the thud of a body being tossed into your cell. To your shock, it's Bella—and she's still breathing.
"You're alive!" you blurt out as you scramble to your feet. "I thought—"
"Don't get close!" Bella shouts, her voice trembling. "That witch did something to me! She said I'm going to be turned into a Roper..."
