As some who's part explorer, part adventurer, little else compares to the thrill of exploring the cave system on the island of Velkim. It's a wonder of the natural world, a lush tropical island with as much to see and do on the surface as there is below ground. Perhaps Velkim's greatest wonder—and its greatest hazard—are the fantastical monster-girls that inhabit every corner of the island. You've heard plenty about them during your rest stops at the few human settlements on Velkim, but have yet to see one for yourself despite all your adventuring across the island.
So far, this journey underground hasn't been terribly eventful. The cave passages down here are a lovely spectacle—when your torch can manage to provide enough light—but at the moment you have nothing to show for your travels through this subterranean labyrinth. It's as you venture deeper into the branching cave system that you start to see signs of a promising discovery.
Scrapes along the cave walls, pinhole-shaped tracks in the cave floor's soil, and light wisps of old silk threads along the stone walls are all indications that you're getting close to something interesting down here. Pressing on, torch in hand, you head down one of the cave's many branching paths.
You only take a few more steps down your chosen path before the dirt of the cave floor becomes lined with a sticky form of silk webbing. Noticing the change, you brandish your torch, and see that the walls are in a similar state. More importantly, you've stumbled into a much larger part of the cave system. No longer are you in a tunnel, with the previously low ceiling having disappeared completely into the darkness.
It's as you're trying to get your bearings that you hear a scuttling noise from above you. You turn to face the sound, but by the time you do, the creature that was lurking above has dropped down onto the floor in front you. The light of your torch reveals who you've bumped into down here—an Arachne.
