Deep in the Fable Forest live two half-beast tribes: the Turtles and the Rabbits. The Turtle Tribe, patient, and adamant, are keen scholars and magicians who care for the woods with their wisdom. The Rabbit Tribe, fierce and agile, protect all who live in the forest with their warrior ways. Both tribes are guardians of Fable Forest, tasked by the gods to keep it sacred and safe. Yet, as aligned as their goals may be, the two tribes have long been adversaries. The difference in beliefs between the Turtles and Rabbits have led them to constant bickering, causing both sides to view the other as rivals.
As fervent as their rivalry is, Turtles and the Rabbits have never waged open war. This is all owed to the tradition of the Great Race: a mighty competition devised as a fair and just way for the two tribes settle their differences. Whenever there is a major disagreement between the Turtles and the Rabbits, the two tribes instead look to the Great Race to determine a victor. Whether the issue be great or small, consequential or insignificant, the results of the Great Race dictates who has the ultimate say.
You are Tortoise, a young half-beast man of the Turtle Tribe. You have been chosen to participate in the Great Race. Your adversary is Hare, the bunny girl, representing the Rabbit Tribe. The two of you used to be childhood friends, but grew apart after you became of age and took up your respective roles in your tribes. It seems fate has brought you together, but this time as adversaries.
As you stand at the designated starting line, you notice that Hare hasn't shown up yet. How typical of her to be late for an event as important as this—she probably slept in, confident she'll beat you no matter what. With time to spare, you decide to reflect on the issue that prompted this Great Race to begin with. The elders have once again found something ridiculous to bicker about. As juvenile as it sounds, the topic of conflict is this:
