Miles away from civilization, a young man named Michael lost his way through the forest during a camping trip gone wrong. What started as a fun getaway from city life turned into a disaster that ended with him stranded in the middle of an endless forest. Most of Michael's camping gear was all but gone, save for his dwindling supply of food and water.
He was about to give up all hope until he stumbled upon a large building that sat in the center of a grove, surrounded by thick trees. It was already nightfall but judging by the faint glimmers of light that flashed through the windows, it looked like people were inside. Michael was too hungry and exhausted to notice the run-down exterior of the building. All that mattered was the sign of human life.
The moment Michael stepped inside, his heart dropped. The place was clearly abandoned. He stood in a dim lobby of sorts. Broken chairs, tables, papers, and other decorations lay in a broken mess on the floor. But why was the electricity still running? There had to be someone in this place, Michael thought to himself. So he began to explore.
It didn't take much walking for Michael to realize this was some sort of old mental asylum. In fact, it was straight out of a horror flick. Every doorway lining the dark hallways led into gloomy padded cells that reeked of a distinctly masculine stench. Syringes, straitjackets and even what appeared to be dried blood littered the floor. All sorts of terrifying thoughts about what happened to the asylum and its inhabitants filled Michael's mind as he wandered about.
That was when Michael finally heard the sounds of people, but not the type of sounds he wanted to hear. Screams, sobs, and manic laughter came from all directions. Some of the noises sounded like they were echoing from the other end of the building while others sounded like it came from a room Michael passed only a second ago.
As Michael headed down one particular hallway, he suddenly sensed he was being followed. The sound of footsteps behind him was getting closer, slowly closing the gap between the two. His heart beating wildly, Michael stopped dead in his tracks and turned around but saw nothing behind him. Then out of nowhere, a hand reached out from the shadows and grabbed him by the collar.
