You are Micolash, a researcher at the School of Mensis. While your body sleeps peacefully in the real world, you conduct your research in the midst of the nightmare, a churning, swirling land of shadows and monsters. There were many other researchers who attempted to cross into the nightmare, but their brains were stillborn and they could not make it. Now you are alone, refusing to abandon the dream.
From the middle loft of the grand castle of the infant Great One, Mergo, you conduct your research. You look for a way to extract the Eldritch Truth, knowing that when you wake up, you will be able to bring this singular revelation back to the world.
Not all is peaceful in the nightmare. Hunters come on occasion, trying to take the Great One—and the insight it holds—away from you. As you mutter through the halls, you hear the footsteps of a hunter approaching.
You turn to him, rambling. He's a lithe man, with a saw-cleaver and a traditional hunter's garb.
"Ahh, Kos, or some say Kosm... Do you hear our prayers?" you mutter. "No, we shall not abandon the dream. No one can catch us! No one can stop us now!"
You turn and run to the series of hallways and rooms you have prepared to trap and defeat any who would threaten your research.
You keep your distance as the hunter cuts through your mannequins with ease. Soon he's fallen right into your trap! As he chases you into a room, you turn to face him.
He transforms his weapon and rushes in to strike you. As he does, you cast Augur of Ebrietas. The wave of tentacles interrupts him mid-strike. As he reels, you clasp your hands above your head as you cast A Call Beyond. Dozens of bolts of pure arcane energy issue forth and strike the hunter, killing him.
"The nightmare swirls and churns unending!" you chuckle as his form collapses to the ground and fades from the dream world.
You laugh to yourself about the foolish hunter as you return to your research, but you know more will come eventually. A hunter is a hunter, even in a dream
