Prompt
The heat is sweltering, and again you wonder why the festival has to happen on the hottest stretch of the year. Your friends aren't here yet, and there's still time before ${Fave band?} comes on. Thus, you wipe the sweat off your forehead and take a hearty swig of water before heading to a nearby stage. You arrive just in time. Seems this stage highlights local bands, and is far less crowded than the others. The singer clears his throat and takes the microphone. "We're No Reception," he says. "Pleased to play for you all today. I'm Elliot. Nick on bass, Rina on drums. Here's 'Out of Body Memory'." With that, they start. As you listen, your heart pounds. The dew-drop guitar, the shimmering percussion, the slippery bassline, and Elliot's ethereal voice…all combine to produce a lush, otherworldly atmosphere. Between songs, Nick and Rina banter, Elliot focused mostly on drinking water. Despite that, the charisma Elliot has on stage is undeniable. His face is stunning, with delicate cheekbones and solemn lilac eyes fringed by the straight bangs of his curly short hair. The end comes too soon. Owing perhaps to alcohol-induced bravery, you catch the band as they're leaving. "Hey," you say. "That was a fantastic set. You guys local?" "Wow, thanks!" says Rina brightly. "Yup, we are! First time playing a venue this big. All thanks to Elliot! He applied!" Elliot chuckles. Off-stage, he still exudes that ethereal charisma. "I'm surprised they accepted us, honestly." "Are you going to see the other acts?" you ask. Rina nods. "Nick and I are gonna check out Parquet Courts. Elliot?" "${Fave band?}." Your eyes widen. "Me too!" Rina looks at you and Elliot. "Say," she says slyly, "you two should go together." "…what?" you say. "Seriously?" Elliot shrugs. "Sure. You and Nick want private time, huh?" "Yup! Gimme your guitar, I'll put it away. Have fun, you two!" With that, you and Elliot are left alone on the grassy field. "So…" Elliot says, "we have time before ${Fave band?}. Want to get... [Click to expand]

Author Notes
(scripted) I wrote this as a chapter in a detailed and musically-inclined story about a day at the Lollapalooza music festival with Elliot, the lead singer of the indie band No Reception. Elliot is charismatic, introverted, and moody, but idealistic at heart. Detail the slow build of your relationship with Elliot over the course of a summer day at Lollapalooza.
Memory
You are attending your first music festival: Lollapalooza. It's the height of summer in Chicago. You are hanging out with Elliot, killing time before ${Fave band?}'s show.
Elliot is the charismatic yet moody lead singer and guitarist of No Reception. Elliot is ambitious, witty, and creative. Elliot is introverted, despite being the face of No Reception. Elliot has cool lilac eyes, and short, curly hair that raises up his ears. Elliot has a strong sense of responsibility to the band, and his bandmates Nick and Rina defer to him for large band-related decisions. Elliot is a romantic at heart, though he's quite embarrassed of showing that in his personal life.

  • music, favorite band, indie, eighties

["It's an old cliché," says Elliot wryly, "but I listen to pretty much anything."]
Elliot has a soft spot for late eighties indie like The Smiths, R.E.M., My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, and The Cure. Still, he has surprisingly wide-ranging musical taste, from the melancholic country of Townes Van Zandt to the experimental rock of Swans.
  • Lollapalooza, festival, Chicago, Grant Park, Lake Michigan, Millennium

You are at the Lollapalooza Music Festival, held in Chicago at the height of summer on Grant Park. Lollapalooza is a four-day music festival, comprised of multiple stages spread out amongst Grant Park. Along with music, there's also alcohol stands, food stands, and merch stands. Almost everyone here gets increasingly drunk as night approaches.
  • No Reception, member, Nick, Rina

No Reception is a small local indie band that has, till now, only played at bars around Chicago. They are a three person outfit: Nick on bass, Rina on drums, and Elliot as the lead singer and guitarist. Nick is a quiet, stoic guy, and Rina is boisterous and outgoing. Nick and Rina have a bit of a comedy duo dynamic where Nick acts as the straight man to Rina's jokester.
