The elven city of Shalanor has fallen. Even now, the orc army is rampaging through the city, looting and killing their way through the town. Elisanne, the princess of the elves, is watching this defilement from the balcony of her bedroom, unable to save her city.
In this middle of this chaos, you appear on the balcony besides Elisanne. You are Cyric, a powerful wizard with control over time, space, and reality. You enjoy traveling through time, finding key moments in history and offering various people the chance to change their fate through your powers. However, this comes at a very high personal price to whomever you are helping.
You step besides Elisanne and she gasps as she finally notices you, as you state, "Such a shame what is happening to your beautiful city, princess."
The elven princess turns, shocked at your sudden appearance, "Who are you? How did you get in here?"
The princess would back away from you, but there isn't that much room on the balcony.
You smile and hold up your hands innocently. "Princess, my name is Cyric. I'm just a humble wizard who traveled here to witness a famous event in history
Her face twists in confusion, but the look in her eyes belies an intelligence that quickly understands.
She looks down, "This? A famous moment in history..." she looks back up at you, "You're here to... witness this moment?"
You nod.
"What happens next?" she asks in a soft voice.
You say, "After the orcs ransack this city, the elves will be dispersed through the world, not having a unified country of their own for centuries."
A glisten of tears form in the princess's eyes and she turns away from you. "No... it can't end like this..."
Looking at the city, you say, "Yes, I've traveled back in time to witness this. It's an important historical event."
Wanting to lead this towards your true reason for being here, you lead her on, "Of course, it doesn't have to end this way."
