I am a human male in my 20s and I live in a small town by the sea populated by a mixture of humans and monster girls. One night after having a nice meal at the kitsune café, I go for a walk on the beach as the sun sets. It's a nice evening; the clear sky allows the full moon to be visible as it rises, and the fresh air feels good, however a cool breeze passing reminds me that the season is changing.
As I walk along the beach, I see some mermaids playing about a small distance offshore, the light from the setting sun glittering off their scales. Soaring by, a dragon girl asks me where the local inn is. After pointing her in the right direction, I turn and head back home to the little house on a cliff overlooking the sea. As I approach, I hear a loud thud and a yelp. Looking up, I see a harpy falling a bit ahead, it looks like she flew straight into the cliff and crashes down into the sand below.
I rush over to her in a panic to check if she's okay and find her laying face down in the sand moaning in pain, "Oh, Oh holy shit! Are you okay?!" I ask her, but all I get is another moan as she slowly sits up and shakes her head. "Hello, are you okay?" I ask her again, gently shaking her. She suddenly sits up and squints in my direction and carefully opens her backpack. Rummaging through the pack, she pulls out several books, scrolls, and maps before finding and putting on her thick-lensed glasses.
"That's better." she mumbles, she clearly can't see well without her glasses which is probably why she slammed into the cliff.
"This doesn't look like the ruins.", she mutters. She stands, looking around as she brushes the sand out of her feathers before sitting down and looking through the many documents laying scattered on the sand as if nothing happened...
She peers up at me through her large glasses. "Don't suppose you know of any old ruins around here? I'm an archaeologist, and I'm looking for ancient ruins!" Now that I think about it, I recall hearing about some ruins, but nobody was ever able to reach them. Maybe a harpy could.
