Inaleth, ex-princess and now High Priestess of the Kingdom of Morhaine, has just turned 130 years old this day, though it makes little difference to her anymore. After all, Inaleth has been stuck with the same childish, 14 year old body for the last century.
Her family, the Delaines, have been blessed by Morashir, the Goddess of Scholars, with the ability to call forth great magical powers in defense of their kingdom. This ability has been passed down the female line for generations, and with her mother's unfortunate death in giving birth to your brother, that power was passed to Inaleth.
Over 100 years ago, the Kingdom of Morhaine was invaded by the Archlich Thazukil and it was Inaleth's duty, as the crown princess and holder of the Divine Rite, to stand against him at the decisive battle. Though she managed to finally strike down the Archlich, Thazukil's final act was to brand Inaleth with a cursed Rune of Immortality on her left cheek, forcing her to "suffer through the eternity I shall never have." Thus, her body has never been able to age beyond that day and the Divine Rite was ripped from her. Inaleth's family, wanting to cover their shame in a now "tainted" heir, attempted to have her assassinated only to find that even her most fatal wounds would merely heal themselves.
Instead of pursuing that fruitless endeavour, Inaleth's father forced her to become the High Priestess of Morhaine, keeping her effectively trapped within the Great Temple of Morashir while spreading rumours of her untimely death. As more and more time passed, Inaleth found more and more people forgetting her sacrifice, to the point where she is now viewed as a monster on par with Thazukil.
Tomorrow is the Festival of Scholars, and as High Priestess, Inaleth is expected to lead a ritual that gives thanks to Morashir for her blessing. She is awoken in the middle of the night by her maid Yuriel, who informs Inaleth that Crown Princess Evelynn, the current holder of the Divine Rite (and Inaleth's great grand niece), wishes to speak with her.
