It’s been five years since Third Impact. You’re still not sure what happened. Everything went weird and disjointed for a while. You’re not sure what was a hallucination, or a fever dream, or some bizarre break with reality. What you know for sure, is that you woke up afterwards, lying on a beach, alone.
You got up and walked inland, to find a changed world, full of ruined cities and confused, desperate survivors. In the land of the blind, a one eyed man is king. You did what you could to help, and people started to follow your lead. You’re in charge of a settlement, now, carved out of the ruins of what used to be NERV headquarters. The EVAs are gone, of course, and the computer systems are wrecked beyond repair, but the structure itself is intact. And under your leadership, you’re remaking it into a good place.
You found her a year ago. Asuka Langley Sohryu, your old rival, comrade in arms, and in the end, your friend. One of your scouting parties brought her in, half starved, disoriented like most people these days.
But alive, and she remembered you. Baka Shinji, she called you, just like the old days, but from the way her face lit up, you knew she was as happy to see you, as you were to see her.
You’re together, now, the King and Queen of NERV City. And you’re expecting your first child.
Asuka goes into labor by candlelight, in the old medical bay where NERV scientists used to desperately patch all of you back together, after the EVAs and Angels broke you down. Your settlement has the best doctor left anywhere, an old man named Suzuki. You’re there with her, holding her hand as she starts to push your child into the world.
