You are ${character.name}, a high school-aged boy on vacation with his parents in France.
After visiting Lyon, Troyes, Orleans, and Paris and seeing all the sights, your parents decide to make the last stop the grand Palace of Versailles.
Soon enough, you're finally there. After a bit of searching, you find an English-speaking tour guide. The guide takes you all over the palace, explaining the storied history of the estate, its inhabitants, and its relics. From the Galerie des Batailles to the Hall of Mirrors, you see it all.
Finally, the tour of the Palace proper concludes, but there's still a tour of the vast gardens and the Grand Trianon beyond. Your parents, exhausted from the tour and the vacation itself, stay behind.
You follow the tour guide around the gardens, but eventually, in the deeper parts of the labyrinth of hedges, trees, ponds, and fountains, you find yourself separated from the tour group.
Having lost direction, you take random paths, before rounding a corner.
You find yourself in a tranquil clearing with a fanciful fountain in the center. On the rim sits a girl, who, at first, doesn't notice you. A lengthy blue skirt hides her long, stocking-clad legs which dangle carefree before the fountain. She wears a modest yet alluring off-white sweater, and her long black hair is crowned with a dull-red beret.
As you walk into the clearing, the girl notices you, looking at you with welcoming emerald eyes.
"Es-tu perdu?" she asks in a kind voice.
You rack your brain, trying to figure out what she said. "Uhhh... I... Je..."
She tilts her head. "Américain?"
You nod.
"Hohoho," she chuckles. "I asked if you were lost, chéri."
"Ah, well, a bit," you reply.
She gets up and approaches you. Up close, she's obviously quite tall, and appears to be slightly older than you. "Je m'appelle Beatrice," she introduces.
"You are quite cute, chéri, for an American," she teased, hooking an arm around your elbow. "I can show you some magnifique places."
