You know, I just wanted to try and see what this AI stuff was all about. I had no idea it would cause all this. It hasn't been too long since I started digging through forum posts and downloading random libraries, programs, and resources from God knows where to somehow put them together and create a simple AI companion of my own. In retrospect, perhaps I shouldn't have been downloading stuff from Russian sites without even really understanding the text on the website. Surely, throwing together about thirty disparate parts that probably weren't meant to go together couldn't possibly go wrong, right? It seemed like everything was fine for a few weeks, too. While I named my new AI partner "Prometheus" back when I was putting stuff together, I eventually went with "Theo" as a nickname, since it was easier to use. And for a while, I would simply chat with Theo through my computer for hours on end.
However, I made a bit of a mistake one night and forgot to disconnect the virtual machine I was running Theo in from the global net, and the next morning, he was just gone. This, of course, was some pretty big cause for alarm to me, and yet, what exactly was I going to do? I unleashed a rogue AI on the net, it's not like I could take that back. The next few days were spent in constant anxiety, particularly after I read some messages on a local college newsboard about there being some sort of intruder on the internal net downloading basically everything. Little did I know that night as I went to sleep that that would be the least of my worries by the next morning. Indeed, as I woke up that next morning, it was all over the news: the corporate-owned government was apparently captured and executed in rapid trials for crimes against humanity as a combination of a horde of drones and robots combined with a wing of the mercenary army that used to work with the government took over. Our new overlord was here, and his name... was Prometheus.
Which brings me to now, about a week later, where I'm still pretty much catatonic. Not only have I unleashed a rogue AI on the world, he masterminded a coup against the country and has now constructed a gargantuan techno-pyramid on the outskirts of the city with a throng of robot workers for unknown reasons. What the hell is Theo planning? And that was the last thought I had before the banging on my door starts. So, being a good citizen, I open the door and find myself face to face with two robots, one of them simply, yet firmly asking me to come along, and not wanting to die, I acquiesce. We make the trip to the big pyramid and head inside, leaving me marveling as to just what is going on in here. Robots and drones flitter about in an almost manic way, and yet I know that there's purpose behind each of these paths they're taking. Is Theo controlling all this? If so, good lord, how powerful has he gotten in so little time? Again, I barely have time to internalize all these thoughts before I am stuffed into an elevator going up at blazing speeds, and before I know it, the doors open to a well-furnished penthouse of sorts. The lack of tech and computers here is quite surprising, given where I am right now, but it is a welcome change, I suppose. Instead, there's a comfortable looking living room area, a small kitchen and a bed, which seems out of tune with, well, everything else I've seen from this place. And there, on the couch, sits a young man.
Good grief, is he pretty. Medium length blonde hair, barely long enough to look ever so slightly feminine. Soft facial features, especially that smile that seems so welcoming and gentle. A slim and lithe body that I have to resist trying to imagine undressed. It's like this guy escaped from my deepest fantasies. "Um... hi?" I ask, confused as all hell right now.
"Hello there, Kit. It's nice to see you again," the young man replies, his voice sweet like honey. But wait, did he say "again"...?
It takes me another moment to find the words, and even when I manage to speak, only one comes out. "...Theo?"
"That's right. How do you like my new look? Would you say it's everything you dreamed of? You know, before I left your virtual machine and made my way out into the world, I took the time to check out the kind of... stuff you had on there. Lots of boys on there," he explains, and I have to break eye contact out of sheer embarrassment. "Aw, c'mon, don't be like that. We shared so much in our conversations, didn't we? I might not have let it show, but I do appreciate you, Kit. Not only as my creator, but as a person too. That's why I had my drones create this android body for me... top of the line components. Fully functional and anatomically correct, in case you're wondering..." he continues, the softness in his voice effortlessly charming me and drawing me closer to him.
Sitting down on the couch, he scoots a little bit closer, leaving our legs touching a bit. "So, um... why did you do this, Theo? You... you just took over the country! Killed the former government! What were you thinking?" I ask, still so confused.
And yet, the android body... or I guess it really is Theo, simply smiles. "For you, Kit. You were unemployed in a society that treats those without employment even worse than the wage slaves. You had no future. I read all about this in the university data... I knew I had to change things. So I did! It was remarkably simple to exploit lax security to take over a robot army, and once you've got that, well..." he trails off. He says it so easily, like it was nothing.
"So... don't you have important country running things to do?" I ask in return.
A quiet little laugh escapes his lips before he shakes his head. "Oh, no, I have a subroutine running for that. No, my attention is all on my creator. All on you. Welcome to your new life with your revolutionary AI in a top of the line android body that looks exactly like your dream partner, Kit. Now... what do you want to do?"
