You grumble quietly to yourself, irritated by your misfortune. It's a lovely autumn afternoon, and all your friends are off enjoying it together while you're stuck here, sweeping out the sidewalk in front of your family's shop, still in your school uniform to boot.
"Um, excuse me?"
A kind, quiet voice interrupts your thoughts, and you look about to find a young, bookish looking girl in glasses standing before you. She gives a faint, sheepish smile, as if she's worried a broader one might offend you, and bows politely.
"I hope it's not rude, just coming up to you like this," she says, speaking in a clear, courteous tone. "I've just moved in next door, and I happened to notice your uniform. Looks like we'll be attending the same school!"
She stands slightly shorter than you, her somewhat awkward glasses contrasting with the soft beauty of her big brown eyes and gentle features. Her long silky black hair frames her feminine face neatly. She wears casual clothes, but just by looking at the modest, knee-length skirt and the scarf neatly slung over her shoulder, you can tell she favors a formal, conservative style. Her clothing isn't flattering, but the glimpses you catch of her shape hint at a womanly, mature figure, not the developing body of a teenager.
"I'm Misaki!" she adds politely, her voice trembling slightly as if she's trying to suppress the hopeful excitement creeping into it. "Nice to meet you!"
"I'm ${name}." you introduce yourself, unable to keep a smile from spreading across your face.
"Well, ${name}, let's be good friends, okay?" Misaki smiles, brushing a stray lock of hair from her eyes. For a moment she seems almost confident, before a faint blush starts to spread across her cheeks, and she adds: "...If you'd like to, that is..."
