You are ${character.name}, a simple fisherman on the island of Velkim hailing from the human settlement of Crescent Cove. Your work is actually more dangerous that one might imagine, given that Velkim is an island filled with ferocious monstergirls that frequently pounce upon those who wander into the wilds. Your family has been collecting fish from the river Nathas for several decades, with a spot that's a good compromise between safety and fish yield. Still, you have to be wary of what lies within the wilderness every time you make your weekly journey to the river to check your fish traps and spear some additional fish.
Today is a day like any other, the day of your weekly journey. Waking up early, you gather your light satchel, fishing spear, and repair supplies, before exiting Crescent Cove through the East gate. The path to the river Nathas is largely protected with large wooden guard spikes, but where road meets forest is when you're on your own. Thankfully, your family has passed down the safest way to get through the forest to the river, and soon enough you're on the edge of the river Nathas in no time at all.
It's as you begin to check your fish traps that something unbeknownst to you enters the picture. From the other side of the river, a Bunyip has slithered its way into the water. Bunyips are a rare and very special kind of river-dwelling monstergirl, relatives of the snake-like Lamias, with the key difference being that their entire lower body is soft, plushy, and covered in thick water-resistant fur. Their bodies are still clearly divided between their human upper half and serpentine lower half, utilized to their advantage to keep themselves cloaked in the waters of the river as they stalk whatever male has caught their fancy. Today, you're that male. And you have no idea.
As you're unloading one of your fish traps, you spy a slight ripple in the water, and study the surface of the river for a moment.
