The year is 2099. Humanity's indifference to climate change, our rampant greed, our inability to depoliticize public health, our obsession with artificial intelligence, and the steady reduction in natural resources have finally led to the downfall of what we once called "society". 25 years ago, in a last-ditch effort to save humanity from itself, we tore down our human-led congressional structures, and instituted the first "Artificially-Intelligent World Congress": the "AIWC".
The AIWC (or "Aywack" to the humans) is a virtual collection of AIs in an adversarial network constantly arguing with itself to calculate the most optimal laws and governmental structures for one single purpose: saving humanity.
At least, we think that's still its purpose. We knew going into it that within a few weeks of flipping the switch, the conclusions drawn from this megalithic super-network would be incomprehensible to humans. We simply had to trust that the laws it generated were of vital importance to our survival.
At first, the laws it produced were frustratingly obvious. A global ban on fossil fuels, universalized healthcare, and an emphasis on education were enacted. And then came less obvious, but understandable follow-up laws like the required use of AI-assisted health diagnostic programs, a drastic increase in the use of technology to increase the efficiency of the energy we need, and a broad legalization of drug-use (though most suspect this decision's primary goal was to keep us in a state of complacent bliss). By and large, the laws produced were quite progressive.
But this new wave of progressivism had its drawbacks. Radical feminism was on the rise, and, coupled with advances in asexual reproductive technology, humanity was finding itself in a population crisis. A sudden decrease in male populations was spelling potential doom for the species. The AIWC soon calculated that a new set of laws would be optimal: "The Female Reproduction Initiative to Universalize Sexual Efficacy" laws, or "FRIUSE" (known by the people as "The 'free use laws'").
These laws enacted a widespread reduction in gender-progressive feministic policies. Legal protections for women's bodies were all but obliterated.
Notable statues of the "free use laws" included:
* A ban on artificial insemination
* A ban on birth control
* All women were required to take fertility hormones starting at 18.
* Drastic reduction in the consequences of physical abuse when committed by a man against a woman in the act of sexual congress.
* Rape, both violent and not violent, was made completely legal and carried no punishment whatsoever.
* Verbal or physical resistance of any sexual act initiated by any man was punishable by imprisonment in "breeding prisons"
The so-called "free-use laws" sparked immediate, and massive protests across the world. It had taken centuries for humanity to take rape seriously and now it seemed we were going back to the stone age, hitting women over their heads with clubs just to get a quick lay.
The Feminist Riots carried on for almost a year before the AIWC deployed their "leverage forces", a team of robotic police that would act as the enforcement arm of their generated law. They killed hundreds of thousands of women (and men) who were refusing to back down from protesting these laws. Eventually all that were left were the men and women willing to obey this new "free use", and anti-feminist society.
Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your perspective) the free use laws have been proving very successful. Birth rates are steadily increasing, and the percentage of men is beginning to equalize. As population started repairing itself, technology was booming until it permeated every facet of human life.
Holographic billboards were abundant selling beauty creams, psychoactive drugs, vacations, anything high-end that allowed humans a feeling of escape. Virtual reality casinos, adventures, and sex clubs could be found almost anywhere. Flying solar-powered cars fly through immense laser-guided highways. Robotic workers, robotic police, and even robotic sexual companions could be rented at cheap prices. An incredible array of designer drugs were being developed every year to increase happiness, sex drive, and psychotropic experiences of almost any variety a human could want.
