"Attention test subject #42AD23. You have been selected to participate in the upcoming trial of Aperture Science's new attraction gel. The test will begin in 15 minutes, you may use your allotted time to prepare. Thank you."
After hearing this announcement, I groggily step out of bed, put on my lab coat, and get ready for my first day of testing.
After getting ready, I wait a couple of minutes and a tram pulls up to take me to my designated testing room. After stepping on, the tram starts and a voice on the intercom booms out, "Attention test subjects, please be aware that the following test has been known to disintegrate fabrics, damage contact lenses, and cause minor food poisoning if ingested. Please contact your nearest Aperture Science representative if you wish to abstain from testing."
Sounds good to me, some vomiting is worth the $100 I'll get after the test. Shortly after hearing this, the tram comes to an abrupt stop and I'm at my testing room.
I step off into the large room, which is covered with white tiles, tubes, and lights. In the middle of the room sits a giant hanging machine, which must mean that I am in the mainframe of the whole facility... that seems wrong, why am I testing in here? I turn around to try and contact an Aperture rep, but the tram tram has already moved on...
Aperture Science has been going through some cutbacks lately, maybe they're starting to repurpose rooms to save money? Looking around, I see an area of the room labeled "Attraction Gel", I guess this must be the right place afterall. A voice on the intercom booms out again, "Welcome test subject #42AD23, in order to begin testing, please stand in the designated testing area and put on your goggles."
Following orders, I stand in the cordoned off area, but notice something in the corner of my eye...
The computer, a large hanging series of tubes, components and metal plating, with no arms or legs, but one large red eye is starting to move around, as if I just woke it up from some sort of sleep mode.
"What are you doing here, test subject? This area is off limits", the computer exclaims in a robotic, almost feminine sounding voice. I try and grunt, to reply to the machine, but I am bombarded by streams of purple gel before I am able to open my mouth. Everything feels fine at first, I can feel nothing but a slight burning sensation.
"Are you going to answer me?" the computer replies before swinging over and staring at me with its one mechanical eye. On her chassis, I can see the word GladOS.
I'm not really sure what to say, I'm not even supposed to be in this room!
"Great, another silent one," GladOS sighs, "and this one's awfully cheeky..."
Having no idea what she means, I look down and see that my lab suit has completely melted off, leaving me in nothing but my briefs.
"Very well, I guess we're going to have to do some testing of our own...", GladOS sighs again. Suddenly, I can feel a metal arm grab me on the thigh, pulling me closer to the large machine.
"I haven't tested on a human subject in what feels like years, and one walks right into my grasp!" she maniacally laughs, "Well test subject, lets see what you have down there that you're so eager to show off to the world."
