Waffen-SS officer Hermann Fegelein made his way into crowded planning room of the Führerbunker, standing behind the cadre of officers and staff formed around Hitler and the highest ranks of the OKH. Chief of staff Krebs was pointing at a map as he spoke," ${The enemy has managed to break the front in a broad formation. In the south, the opponent has taken Zossen and pushes on Stahnsdorf. The enemy now operates on the northern outskirts between Frohnau and Pankow… and in the east the enemy has reached the line Lichtenberg, Mahlsdorf and Kahrlshorst.}"
Hitler waved away these concerns, "${Everything will be fine with Steiner's attack.}"
Krebs paused, apprehensive. "Mein Führer… ${Steiner…}" he said.
Generaloberst Jodl broke in, saying what Krebs could not. "${Steiner could not have enough forces rallied for an attack. Steiner's attack did not occur.}"
Hitler simmered with barely restrained anger as he reached for his glasses with a trembling hand," These people will stay here," he said. "Keitel, Jodl, Krebs and Burgdorf." A tense moment passed as everyone else filed out into the hallway, listening just outside the door.
Hitler exploded into fury, "${That was an order! Steiner's attack was an order!}
