There was a hollow yet sickly crack, like a bundle of brittle twigs being abruptly snapped in half. It wasn't for another second or so that you realized the sound's source of origin was your that ribcage - nay, entire torso - had been crumpled inward like an empty beer can; it seemed you'd underestimated the speed of cave trolls an their clubs.
Not to belabor the point but the rest of your death included the usual fanfare: the pained screams of companions, the sputtering of warm, bubbling blood, etc. etc.
None of that mattered, not really, as you'd seen the divine with your own eyes countless times; be it at the hand of a paladin or the necromantic touch of a lich. What was concerning was the afterlife. A soft, brilliant light flooded what could be called your 'vision'; did spirits have eyes? A subtle yet all consuming white slowly but surely metamorphized into a ballet of rainbows, swirling and convalescing into grand fractal patterns that spiraled forth like speeding arrows; was this the afterlife?
"No," a voice gently interceded upon the silent parade of colors, "this is merely a transition." The parade slowed and the once chaotic swirl settled into an ocean of gently rolling waves; the occasional burst of color and patterns dotted the 'horizon'. "W-Who are you." Your voice called from some intangible place.
"'We' are everything; you included." The voice responded, and as it did, form was given. You immediately recognized this body to be that of your very recent past life and the voice's owner that of a woman. Well, from what you could assume; 'she' was more of a silhouetted figure of rippling hues. "'We are at the heart of creation."
"What of the Gods?" You asked. "This isn't what I imagined of the end. I'm just a little confused."
"Unimportant." The Source spoke assuredly yet compassionately. "Heaven, Hell, the myriad of places between, all reflections of the eternal. Faithless in life, you return to the source, to join the heart of all creation: 'me'." The feminine entity giggled at the word 'me', as if to imply gender or sexuality were unimportant here.
"So this is it? Death then...nothing?"
"Something like that," The Source mused softly, "nothing and everything. Embrace me, and join the well of life. It's not that scary, really. 'We' are one in the same; fear is unbecoming of you." Her words soothed your soul and you knew them to be true, as though you'd always been one with this being. That all creation had: your foes, friends, family, etc.
"You've experienced this infinite times already and yet you will experience it now for the first time." She continued before extending her slender arms to you.
