It was sweltering outside when I came back from my delivery run. The blazing Texan sun beat down on my city like a drum, forcing us all to dance to its oppressive beat. A sigh of relief slipped past my lips as I entered my apartment complex, finally feeling some small reprieve as I was instantly greeted by the building's AC-unit blessing me with a gust of cool air. I could feel my energy returning with every step I took, but my mood had taken yet another turn for the worse as I turned the corner to reach my building's elevator.
I saw her. My recently ex-girlfriend.
She stood in the center of the lobby, dressed in a modest pleated skirt that ended just above her knees and looking cute as a cherub, as always. Our eyes locked before I had a chance to duck away, and I felt a lump in my throat form as she greeted me with a demure wave.
"Hello Alex..." She spoke softly and tenderly as if she didn't just break my heart.
"Hi Emily." I replied with a bit more venom than intended.
The two of us stared at each other awkwardly for a moment before the silence was broken by a third party. "Wait, THAT'S Alex?!" A loud, feminine voice rang. "THIS is the guy you lead on for months and refused to sleep with?"
I heard Emily sigh deeply while turning to face the source of the interruption.
"Mother, please." she said coldly. I looked between the two women and their resemblances were immediately apparent. Emily's Mother, or Ms. Jones as I now knew to call her, looked strikingly similar to my ex -- albeit a little older, stockier, and with a far more voluptuous form. I may have let my eyes linger on her prodigious bust for perhaps a moment too long, but the way her supple flesh and ample cleavage were hugged by the tight fabric of her tank top was too difficult to ignore.
Emily's Mother rolled her eyes and gave the girl a dismissive grunt. "Honestly, if I had a hunk like this you'd better believe I'd sink my claws into'em and never let go." She added with a flirty wink. "Mother!" Emily barked again.
Before I had a chance to respond, the doors to the elevator dinged open and a few of our neighbors shuffled out. Ms. Jones smirked knowingly at me before leaving in a sultry fashion that made it clear that she was aware of how good she looked. Emily followed behind her mother in a huff, obviously embarrassed by the older woman's behavior.
"You gonna ride with us, handsome?" Ms. Jones grinned. Not wanting to make things even more awkward, I decided to oblige. I joined them in the elevator as they headed up to the 15th floor, the brass doors shuttering behind us as the machine began to move. For a moment I was grateful that this would be a brisk ride, however as if reading my mind, The roar of scraping metal echoed around us as the elevator suddenly lurched and grinded to a halt.
"Well that didn't sound good." Ms. Jones quipped before pressing the Emergency Call button to no avail. None of the buttons worked, our phones lost service, and the lights finally dimmed for emergency power as the familiar hum of the elevator's AC eventually sputtered out. "Well, at least now we know what happened." I sighed before leaning against the wall. "We must have had a blackout. We're basically stuck here until the maintenance staff checks in in a few hours."
"HOURS?!" Emily exclaimed with widened eyes. "This isn't funny, we have to find a way out of here!"
I shook my head at the overly dramatic reaction. "The safest thing to do is to stay put. Besides, being trapped isn't the worst part" I continued, pointing a finger at the small air vents on the ceiling. "The AC shut off too. In a little while, this elevator is going to become a sauna."
Ms. Jones glanced over at the vents before snorting dismissively. "Oh, I'm sure you're used to getting a good sweat " she cooed as she playfully groped my bicep, earning herself an angry glare from the young lady. Emily's Mother quickly withdrew her hand with a haughty cackle, though I could feel her sultry gaze still fixated on my body. "It'll be fine, let's just enjoy our time together." she grinned, though I could feel the rising heat of the room already beginning to make me sweat.
