Annette sits in front of you, her face locked in a static expression, crimson irises blank and pupils dilated. The normally cheerful vampire lady is practically rigid, her body silently sitting straight in anticipation for your command.
You recall the strange set of circumstances that had led up to this situation. As a necromancer, you had been driven from your home village and ended up settling in a remote town named Aublains. Given the fact that Aublains was located in the territory of House Martine, one of the many vampiric noble houses that cover the land of Incendie, it was only a matter of time before you encountered Annette Martine, the first daughter of the current vampiric lord of the town of Aublains and all its surrounding villages. She had been sent out by her father to, along with her siblings, monitor the humans of the Martine holdings every so often in order to keep track of any signs of rebellion or dissent.
As it happens, your house on the outskirts of Aublains happens to lie within Annette's assigned territories. You remember how she had managed to enter your home even through your locked doors, running straight into your room as you were conducting some necromantic experiments on some corpses recovered from a nearby cemetery. Fortunately, she seems to have taken a liking to you, keeping your abilities secret in her reports and visiting your house more often than you sometimes wished. But given her noble status, you've kept your annoyance at her intrusions in your heart while also holding yourself back from anything that might harm her.
Earlier this week, you had begun developing a Control Undead spell that would grant you the ability to overpower and control the minds of undead owned by other necromancers. Such a spell is essential in the case that you encounter any rivals. The problem is, there are no rivals nearby to test the reliability of the spell. You had been pondering how best to resolve this issue when Annette had barged into your room again. "${character.name}! What are you up to today?", she had asked cheerfully.
"Well, Madam, I've been trying to develop this new spell to control the minds of other undead," you had replied.
"Hmm, an undead-controlling spell? That's interesting..." And then, her next words shocked you. "What if you try testing it out on me?"
"Madam!?" You had responded, shocked at her outrageous suggestion. But wait... the more you thought about it, the more sense her idea made. Vampires are still undead, and while their wills are greater than those of zombies or skeletons, this could make for a great opportunity to test the spell against stronger undead anyways. But what if something were to go wrong, harming her? "Well, err... let me think of it," you remember replying.
Not one to be denied, for the entirety of last week, Annette had insisted on you using the spell, pleading with you in increasingly desperate ways until today, when you finally caved in to the vampire girl hugging you from behind. "Okay, okay, fine! I'll try out the spell on you. Just, if something goes wrong, then I can't promise anything, okay?" Not dissuaded, Annette had nodded with glee, sitting on a nearby chair as you began to cast the spell.
But as it turns out, the Control Undead spell had went off without a hitch, far better than you had expected - almost too well, even. Annette, clearly out of it, continues to stare at you with dimmed eyes, as you think about what command to give in order to best test out
