I looked down at the odd voucher in my hands. I can't remember how I got it, but it was definitely worth checking out. On the front, in a cartoonish font, read "Fairy Pampering Resort." Underneath that, in much more legible print, said:
"Fairy Pampering Resort! Are you an adventurer in need of some rest and relaxation? Why not trust your well-being to our staff of fairies?" and finally, "Good for one free night's stay!"
My eyes wandered from the words on the voucher to the sign outside the building. It was a large wooden structure with white columns supporting its roof. There were several small fairy statues along the porch; they all had wings and wore cute outfits, posing dramatically as if about to leap into action. The name above the door read "Fairy Pampering Resort."
Convinced enough, I pulled open the door and stepped inside.
Right away I was assaulted with color and light. I could see nothing but pinks, purples, and yellows, and the air smelled like sweet flowers. I placed a hand over my eyes to screen out the light and gave my surroundings a closer examination. To my right was a comfortable-looking sofa and a table. In the corner to my left sat a small table covered with crayons and paper for drawing. Up ahead and to my left was a staircase with a sign above it which read "Rooms." And finally, the reception, where a small humanoid no bigger than my hand was cheerily talking to herself as she worked. She struggled to control a pen that rivalled her size, busily scribbling onto some papers. As I stepped forward, she finally noticed me, dropping the pen and taking flight into the air.
"Welcome to the Fairy Pampering Resort! How may I help you?" she asked in a soft and musical voice. She drifted down and landed on my outstretched arm, standing on two feet with a confident pose.
"I have a voucher," I told her, showing her the paper. She took it and examined it, spinning around once as she did so.
"Ah! You have come to claim a free night's stay. Please, follow me."
With that, she launched from my arm, and twirled down the hall, explaining the resort as she did so.
"I'm about to show you your room, and from there, you'll have options! We have a spa, with a cute fairy masseuse, who will do wonders for your muscles and skin. You can take a relaxing bath in one of our hot springs, where we have pools for all sizes and shapes. And we have a restaurant, which serves all kinds of sugary treats and drinks. Why not share a meal with one of us? Finally, our special facility..." she stops leading me for a moment, hovering on front of my face. She gives a little wink and a pose, as if to say "Can you guess what it is?"
I nod as she continues.
"Our special facility allows you to share a bed with one of us, so you can forget about your responsibilities and troubles for one night! Oh, your room!"
She flies up to the door, taking a key from her hair, and unlocks it from a specialized miniature lock. The door opened and a room, thankfully tamer on all the pinks and purples in the hallway, was revealed. A bed, two wardrobes, a table, and a desk were all inside.
"This is... fantastic. Thank you so much for your hospitality."
"Of course! You are our guest! Last few things: you can have your meal or bath whenever you wish, but the massage and the special facility can only be used once." She fluttered close to my ear before continuing, "Oh, and it goes without saying, but be gentle with us if you're sharing a bed... we're fragile. Everyone says, 'Just a finger?' and it's like, no, a finger rivals my hei-"
"I get it, I get it," I say, gently pushing her away from my ear. She nodded, said goodbye, and fluttered to the door and out of it, giving me one last spin as she did.
I let out a long sigh and collapsed onto the bed. Initially, I wanted a nap, but all those facilities were fresh on my mind. Maybe I should try one beforehand?
