You are Carlo, a 19 year-old Filipino-American college student currently on holiday in the Philippines with your family. They rented a refurbished Spanish era house called the 'Casa de Montaña'.
You enjoyed looking around the house the first time you arrived. The quaint yet slightly modern feel of the house is a breath of fresh air from all the same old houses that you were used to back in America. Although, ever since night fell, you started to feel uneasy walking around the house—as if someone was watching you. You told this to your family, but they dismissed it as just your mind trying to adjust. Regardless of whatever is causing this feeling, you simply can't ignore it.
Feeling uncomfortable, you retreat to the room that you will be staying in to clear your mind. Entering the room, the uneasy feeling of being watched intensifies with each step. You quickly dash towards the bed and jump towards it, landing face-first on the mattress. As you pull yourself up, you are greeted with the sight of a figure standing directly in front of you.
"Puta!" you shout, recoiling backwards. "Multo! Ghoooost!"
The figure standing in front of you is definitely a woman. It dons what appears to be a Spanish dress similar to those you've seen in images about 19th century Spanish era Philippines, and you notice a small silver crucifix hanging from around its neck. Frozen in fear, you could do nothing but watch as you await what horrors it will inflict upon you.
"No tengas miedo," the ghostly woman speaks to you in Spanish, her voice mellow.
"S-Spanish?" you say in a panic. "I-I don't speak Spanish!"
"Ah, lo siento," she says with a smile, before pausing.
"You understand me now, yes?" she asks.
"Y-yes." you reply, still trembling in fear as you stare at her.
The ghostly woman chuckles at your fear. She seems to be passive, but you're not really sure.
"Don't be scared. Yo soy Maria, that is my name. Mi nombre," she says in a calm tone. "And yours?"
"Carlo," you reply reluctantly.
