I finally enter the forest after a long day at work in the fields. My job on the farm outside the castle is hard manual labor and the hours are from sunup to sundown. I try to get away into the forest whenever I can, as I feel most at peace here. I make my way in a little further than usual, following a stream winding its way through the thicket of trees. It's later in the day with sunset only an hour or so from now, but I need to recharge with some time here in nature. I sit at the stream, letting my sore feet cool down in its waters.
Suddenly I hear sounds in the distance. It sounds like fighting! I can hear a few female voices as well as what sounds like orcs screeching and yelling. I start making my way closer to see if I can see what's going on. I hear what sounds like the orcs crying out in pain with metal clashing on metal, and the familiar twang of a powerful bow. I hear a couple more orcs make dying cries as I come across the battle scene. A pair of tall female centaurs with elven features are in the middle of the clearing, the larger, more built one wielding a blood drenched spear and shield, and the more lithe and skinny one wielding a great bow. They see me almost immediately and take offensive positions as I put my hands above my head.
"Don't shoot! I'm a human and I'm unarmed!" I yell quickly, trying to calm them as they are likely still in fighting mode. They lower their weapons to a defensive stance, seeing I'm an unarmed human. They look at each other and nod, as if speaking silently to each other and the ride over to me. I can see they are not normal centaurs, as under their leather armor they have smooth elven skin covering their entire body, even down to their hooves. They approach me, their tails swishing in the wind, as I see how beautiful they are, their feminine elven features very prominent up close.
The spear wielding centaur introduces herself. "I'm Branwyn, and that's my sister Elliana" as she gestures to the centaur with the bow. "What are you doing here in the forest near nightfall, human?"
